Playing at Sight and Figured Bass Realization: candidates will be
required to play a piece at sight (See General
Regulations for Harpsichord), and also to realize a figured bass passage,
up to sixteen bars in length and in simple or compound time, in the key of C,
G, D, F, B flat or E flat major, or A, E, B, D, G or C minor. In addition to
the requirements of Grade 7, the figures may include the:
and 7 chords. Chromatic
accidentals may occur in the figures and the bass. The passage will have a
mood or tempo indication or a dance title, which must be taken into account
by the candidate in achieving a musical realization, particularly with regard
to the rate of harmonic change and the inessential notes in the bass.
